young newcomers

Young people as young as 18 can participate in Cool Green, a new tie Art project in which we are visually attractively greening facades in various neighborhoods and districts. This way we contribute to more cooling and a higher quality of life for residents.

Within Cool Green, young recognized newcomers take center stage. In cooperation with social partners and other organizations, das Kunst developed a ten-day training, in which participants learn to work creatively and practically on the greening of facades in the city under the guidance of the artistic staff of das Kunst. No specific language level is required. During the course, participants will practice Dutch in an informal way, put their imagination to use and develop practical STEAM skills, with the goal of full participation in the implementation.

During the training we work together to develop a design up to the realization of a concrete project. To do this, we use various tools and materials: we create models, sketches on paper and digitally, use VR glasses to view designs and work with a laser cutter to make parts. In addition, participants learn practical skills such as annealing, drilling and planting, and work step by step to help green facades themselves. Thus, the course forms a hands-on learning environment and a low-threshold practice opportunity for Dutch.

We start this spring in Gentbrugge (Ghent) and Borgerhout (Antwerp). From February to the end of May 2026, our team of artistic collaborators in both cities will accompany young newcomers during the ten-day course. In May, we will realize together the first artistic facade renovations in Ghent and Antwerp.
